I became a Christian in 1995, at the age of 21, after a lifetime spent in the 'Bible Belt', with a church on every corner. No one, to my recollection ever witnessed to me. Nobody ever gave me the gospel.
In the many years since then that we've been doing ministry, I have heard more than one person lament how, their entire life, Christians have been 'in my face', and 'jamming the Bible down my throat' and that their antagonism towards me is a reaction to that. I am, apparently from time to time, the straw that broke the camel's back.
Not only did that not happen to me (ever), but I really don't see anybody else doing that. I see that most Christians keep their mouth shut and never witness at all or if they do, their witness is marred by either a life that doesn't match the scriptures, or an open ambiguity regarding the authority of the scriptures.
